SUMMARY:First Cut: Chinese Junipers
DESCRIPTION:First Cut: Beginner Bonsai Workshop \n\n\n\nYour first bonsai starts here.Chinese Junipers (Nov 14): This session uses Chinese juniper\, a tough\, forgiving evergreen that handles Texas heat and takes wire well. It’s a great first tree for learning to shape branches. \n\n\n\nFirst Cut is for people who have never styled a tree. In two hours\, you’ll take a starter tree from nursery stock to a bonsai you can take home\, and you’ll learn why each step matters along the way. We’ll cover how to choose which branches stay and which go\, how to prune and wire\, how to pot the tree\, and how to care for it once it’s on your windowsill or patio. \n\n\n\nWe provide the tree\, pot\, soil\, wire\, and tools. Bring your curiosity. No experience is needed. \n\n\n\nYou’ll leave with your own bonsai and a clear idea of how to keep it growing. \n\n\n\nDetails \n\n\n\n\nCost: $85\, all materials included\n\n\n\nLength: 2 hours\n\n\n\nClass size: Limited to 10 people\, so every participant gets hands-on help. Advance registration is required.\n\n\n\nLocation: Outdoors at High Water Bonsai\, 9106 Harbor View St\, San Antonio\, TX. Dress for the weather and wear clothes you don’t mind getting soil on.\n\n\n\nProvided: Water\, coffee\, and light refreshments\n\n\n\n\nQuestions? Email drew@highwaterbonsai.com.

SUMMARY:Winter Is Coming: Preparing for Dormancy (BYOB)
DESCRIPTION:Most bonsai don’t die in summer. They die in winter\, from the wrong kind of care. \n\n\n\nSan Antonio winters are mild most of the time\, until a hard freeze blows in overnight. That mix confuses a lot of growers. Temperate trees like elms\, junipers\, and pines need a real winter rest to stay healthy. Tropicals like ficus need protection the minute temperatures drop. Treat them the same way and one group will suffer. \n\n\n\nIn this evening workshop\, we’ll go over what dormancy is\, which of your trees need it\, and how to get them through a South Texas winter. We’ll talk about watering when trees aren’t actively growing\, when to stop feeding\, how to protect roots during a freeze\, and what to do with tropicals when a cold front is on the way. Winter is also the best time to look closely at structure on deciduous trees\, so we’ll use the bare branches to plan spring work. \n\n\n\nThis is a BYOB class: Bring Your Own Bonsai. Bring up to three (3) trees from your collection\, and we’ll help you make a winter plan specific to that tree and to where it lives at your house. \n\n\n\nDetails \n\n\n\n\nDate: Thursday\, November 19\, 2026\n\n\n\nTime: 6–8 PM\n\n\n\nCost: $40\n\n\n\nBring: Up to 3 trees from your collection\n\n\n\nClass size: Limited to 10 people. Advance registration is required.\n\n\n\nLocation: Outdoors at High Water Bonsai\, 9106 Harbor View St\, San Antonio\, TX. Evenings get cool in November\, so dress warmly.\n\n\n\nProvided: Water\, coffee\, and light refreshments\n\n\n\n\nQuestions? Email drew@highwaterbonsai.com.
